Product Review: My Top Must-Have's for Flawless Skin

Product Review_ My fave skin care products right now.png

There are a TON of products out there. I have a tough time figuring out which ones are worth the risk in trying. I mean, why would I want to spend hundreds of dollars on a product that I’m just going to break out or have a reaction to? No. Thank. You.

I’ve tried and tested an embarrassing amount of skincare products in the effort to attain flawless skin. I’ve come across some amazing products and some that are quite literally, terrible.

Check out my list of current favourite products for flawless skin. This is what I’m using at the moment and loving. That doesn’t mean I think they’re the be-all, end-all of what’s great out there on the market, it’s what’s working for me right now.

The Ordinary

I love The Ordinary. They provide quality products with a modest price point that makes it a lot easier to be able to test out formulas.

While I’m not crazy about all of their products, these two formulas in particular have made noticeable differences in my skin.

The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution

We all know topical vitamin C is great for your skin. I’ve never been one to follow the trends and hadn’t really paid much attention to topical vitamin C until a couple years ago. I’ve been using this particular product for almost a year and even within the first month of me using it, I noticed a difference in the overall tone and radiance of my skin. I always make sure to have this product in stock for myself as even a week without using it I find the texture and tone of my skin becomes more dull and dry.

Not all topical forms of vitamin C are made the same. I chose this ethylated form because it’s a stable form of vitamin C with lightweight texture and high potency. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant and the point of any antioxidant is to bind free “radicals” of oxygen so that your cells don’t. If a vitamin C solution oxidizes, not only does that defeat the purpose of using vitamin C for its antioxidant status, but it also mean you’re applying a “pro-oxidant” to your skin, which is potentially damaging to the skin.

I apply four drops of this vitamin C to my skin every morning, after cleaning, and top it off with a moisturizer.

The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA

Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates the skin. As we age, it’s important to avoid using exfoliators that are mechanical (ex. exfoliators that physically “scrub” dead skin cells off your skin) and instead opt of chemical exfoliators like direct acids.

This 10% formula mildly exfoliates the skin, making it safe to use on the regular. But be careful with direct acids if you have sensitive or compromised skin. I would suggest starting with their 5% lactic acid formula first (I did as well) before upgrading and read The Ordinary’s recommendations on patch testing before trying this formula.

Using direct acids like this formula can increase your sensitivity to the sun. Use this product before bed and limit your sun exposure while using this product (as in, sun tanning might not be a good idea).

I apply one dropper-full of this product every night after cleansing. It keeps my skin smooth and glowing (yay!).

dermaroller skin cleanser

Dermaroller Skin Cleanser

I switch in and out of what cleansers I use but one thing always remains the same - I don’t wash my face with water.

It’s far too drying for my skin. I’ve tried hydrating or oil-based cleansers to help combat this issue when washing my face with water but time and time again I’m unhappy with the results. My skin becomes far too dull and dry.

I originally stumbled across this formula when I brought in my eDermaStamp micro needling device for clients. They sent me a complimentary bottle of this skin cleanser. I didn’t use it for a while (not gonna lie, it was because I didn’t like the packaging :P) until I ran out of cleanser at home and thought I’d give this stuff a try.

It’s amazing.

I apply it to a cotton pad and use morning and evening. Added bonus: it’s also great at removing make-up (although I would suggest using an eye make-up remover anyways).

This cleanser contains coco-glucoside (a non-ionic surfactant that not only cleanses but also protects the skin from drying out), aloe vera and rice extract. It’s anti-inflammatory and perfect for dry, sensitive and mature skin.

*Note: if you want access to this product and live in Canada I’m more than happy to order it in for you. Just send me an email at

Bend Skincare Anti-Aging Formula

Two words for this product: Game. Changer.

While using the right topical products are important for flawless skin, it’s also vital to use health enhancing products like this formula. Bend Skincare Anti-Aging Formula helps boost skin radiance, reduce redness/inflammation and support skin hydration. It also helps to boost your skin’s resilience against UV sun damage.

This product contains EPA and DHA (the active ingredients of a fish oil), GLA (derived from borage oil and important for skin hydration and elasticity), lutein and zeaxanthin (potent antioxidants for your skin) and vitamin D. When these ingredients are used together, such as in this formula, the results are are far greater than when using these products individually.

I can’t say enough about how amazing this product is for flawless skin. Whenever I start to notice my skin is “suffering”, be that from dry weather, lack of sleep or just not taking care of myself (yes I sometimes slack too…), this is my first product I make sure I start using again. Within a couple weeks I notice my skin feels less chapped and dry and has that healthy glow back.

I take four softgels of this product every morning. Get your bottle on their website.

While I switch up my skin care regimen on occasion, I’ve been using all of these products for the past few months and am absolutely loving them. I highly recommend giving them a try!
