Homemade Cough Syrup

It's that time of year - coughs and colds seems to be lurching around every corner. That's why having some basic cough and cold recipes are important to have in your cold-busting arsenal. Be it you or a close friend or family member, someone is going to come down with something. Fight back with this amazingly delicious honey, onion and garlic syrup and you will be back in ship shape in no time!

Honey, Onion and Garlic Syrup

What you need:

1/2-3/4 cup of organic and/or local honey
1/4 of a cooking onion, diced
2 cloves of garlic, diced

Combine the above ingredients, ensuring you have enough honey to completely cover the onion and garlic in a container. Let sit overnight or for at least 3 hours.  Over time a thin liquid will form on the top of the mixture - this is chock full of the immune-boosting active ingredients of the garlic and onions.  Take 3-4 tsps of this daily, in divided doses or even when you're having that tickle in your throat during the night.  You can continue taking this for as long as you need, usually for about 3-5 days.

I love this simple medicinal syrup and the great part is that it can be whipped up in no time with simple ingredients you can find in your pantry.
