Free From Harsh Chemicals with Your Skin in mind

COLE takes a different approach to skincare that’s not exactly mainstream. The topical products that we create are designed to support cellular skin health, which means a completely different take on how to manufacture skincare formulas.

We have chosen to omit (and instead use):

  • Penetration enhancing ingredients like polysorbates, PEGs and PPGs, and instead use a liposomal approach to product penetration using ingredients like Lecithin.

  • Tocopherol, and instead use alternate antioxidants like Rosemary Extract and Elderberry Extract.

  • Unstable ingredients like most forms of vitamin C (ex. L-ascorbic acid) and instead use more stable active ingredients like resveratrol and peptides to achieve the same (and even better) benefits.

  • Derivates of petroleum, and instead find the “green” or alternate version of these ingredients if/when we choose to use them in a formula.

  • Soap and most surfactants, and instead have chosen gentler ingredients derived from sucrose or coconut that are far less stripping to the skin.

  • Conventional emulsifiers like Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate (to name a few), and instead use ingredients considered “lamellar technology” like Lecithin, Glyceryl Behenate and Behenyl Alcohol.

  • Hyaluronic acid and other ingredients that can contribute to “over-hydrating” the skin (epidermis). Overhydration of the epidermis leads to a disruption in the normal enzymatic activities of a cell, increasing or aggravating pro-inflammatory processes and compromising skin barrier defense. Instead, we use mindful ingredients that help support skin hydration from a cellular perspective (giving the skin barrier and cells what they need to support their own hydration and barrier defense).

  • Most essential oils. We don’t use essential oils in our leave-on products due to their potential to cause skin irritation, unless they are there for a very good reason (hint: intentionally scenting leave-on products isn’t something we do). If there is an essential oil in a leave-on product it’s <0.01% of the formula.

We also make an effort to be mindful of the Country of Origin of our products, EcoCert and COSMOs certifications, and ingredients that are low or 0 on the comedogenic scale. And as much as we do our best to be mindful of carbon emissions from the shipping of our ingredients, we also value product freshness - it’s a bit of a dance with ingredient ordering because of this, but we are continuously improving our efforts to be as mindful of this as possible.
